The clients have been renovating a stunning Victorian 'villa' on the outskirts of the bustling lakeland town of Ambleside for the past 18 months, and had recently received planning permission for a unique garden room extension.
A site visit took place before building work began to explore the aspect the window would be taking, the current landscaping and the light, as well as discussing potential design ideas and glass options.
Following this, an extensive design period took place with multiple options of designs and colourway options proposed, which were then refined to create the final design and resized in consultation with the glazing company to ensure encapsulation and framing standards would be met. Inspiration was taken from the site visit, historical illustrations of the surrounding area and the original house and photos provided by the clients.
Glass was hand selected from glass suppliers in both Liverpool and Bristol, to ensure the balance of tonal colours, and the beauty of the mouthblown glass could be truly appreciated at close view as the window would be positioned at the end of a corridor at eye level, downlit and viewed from multiple aspects.
Currently on the bench and being leaded up, the window will then require glazing putty and polishing, before thoroughly curing for a minimum of 2 weeks before encapsulation, to ensure no excess moisture becomes trapped within the unit over time.
